Evening League is played on Tuesday nights throughout the season, with the Cup competition on Monday evenings. The team plays in Division 1 so the standard is high. A great chance for those players who want a taste of cricket at a higher level. 16 overs a side, it is also good fun.

Evening League Report 2009 Well, after years of trying, Sarisbury finally lifted the Southampton Evening Cricket League title. Congratulations to all those involved and particular thanks to Sandra Moon who was our regular scorer. A total of 25 players played on a Tuesday evening this summer, in spite of this, there was a core group of around 14 who played regularly. Our record was such that we won 8 lost 2 and tied 1, which happened to be the first game of the season against Hedge End Hawks. When it seemed they had the game in the bag, needing just 2 runs for victory off the last over with 3 wickets remaining, Steve Roberts then went on to produce a magical last over to give us valuable points. From this point we put together a string of 5 straight victories and never came off the top of the table. What was even more rewarding for us was the fact that, never did we rely on 2 or 3 players to do everything which is the approach many teams seem to adopt. In pretty much every single game, everyone was given the chance to either bat or bowl, not bad considering there only 16 over games. Whilst winning was our intention, we managed to balance this well with giving all those who give up their time to play an opportunity. Whilst the SECL has its drawbacks, we have to remember that it has played its part in getting the club to where it is today by providing competitive practice and an opportunity of exposing youngsters to noble southern league performers. A number of people contributed key performances with the bat including; Matt Journeaux (338), Matt Reeves (176), Simon Orr (138), Joe Humby(132), Sam Freemantle (103) and Rob Cooper (76) to name but a few. Keith led the way with the ball taking 10 wickets @ 20.80 and an economy of 6.60. Tom Clark (8), Joe Humby (7), Steve Roberts (7), Martin Lander (6), Fraser Moon (5) & Rob Carpenter (5) all bowled well throughout the season. A good all-round team effort by the boys to achieve this and thanks to all those that played at very late notice (even after games started). Thank you for all those that helped at games either through supporting or manning the BBQ and bar. This is just another sign of the direction that the club is progressing towards and long may it continue. Matt Journeaux
